The Content You Should Be Crammin' (But Not For Exammin')

Stephanie Carmichael Stephanie Carmichael

Let’s face - it’s been a hectic semester. Assessments are happening all at once, you can’t catch a break from work, and you haven’t seen your friends in what feels like 5 years. But somehow, even with all that stress, you still manage to find the time to cram that content… just not the exam kind.

We asked our UWA students what they’re binging, playing and listening to in order to get through this crazy time in the semester. So, if you’re looking for recommendations and more reasons to procrastinate, you have come to the right place!

BINGING

Why is it so easy to watch 6 hours of Grey’s Anatomy, yet so hard to watch 20 minutes worth of lectures? This question will never be answered, but here are some answers to what you should watch right now:

RATCHED

A psychological thriller that tells the story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. If you love One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (or Sarah Paulson - the more likely option) then this new one on Netflix could be a go.

NEW GIRL

Queen of Quirky Zooey Deschanel gets cheated on and moves into a loft with three guys. What’s the worst that could happen?!

BONES

An American crime-comedy-drama about forensic anthropology and archaeology. Could still technically count as studying for ANHB units, if you're really desperate.

SUPERNATURAL

Remove yourself from reality and follow two brothers as they hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural beings. LOTS of episodes, so it's perfect for bingeing.

GREY'S ANATOMY

The hospital show juggernaut that follows Meredith Grey as she travels on her medical journey from intern to super doctor. It's about to kick off the SEVENTEENTH season, so settle in for the long haul. Basically, the doctors are cute and they die :(

EMILY IN PARIS

The newest fluff show from Netflix you love to hate and hate to love as much as you do. A girl who works for a marketing firm (and carries out her job SUPER realistically 🙃) gets a job in Paris, yet she can’t speak French … oh cher.

FRIENDS

Truly the OG of procrastination content, the comfort food of television, and the most popular response. Six loveable friends moving through life and drinking coffee while living in NYC apartments way outside their price range. But honestly, the description isn't even necessary - we all know the deal here.

Honourable mentions:

  • The Hateful Eight
  • Criminal: UK
  • Records of Youth
  • Euphoria
  • K-Dramas

PLAYING

While exams do be playing us, we also do be playing games. Whether you’re a card game lover, or can’t get enough of Among Us, we support your gaming addiction 100%.

AMONG US

Jump on the bandwagon and work together to find out who the imposter is on a ship on crew mates (Blue is sus).

POKEMON

Who doesn’t love catching these cute little creatures and pitting them against each other? Gotta catch 'em all!

SUPER MARIO 64

Take it back to the 90’s with some OG Mario playing and questionable graphics. Nostalgia is the perfect excuse for killing some hours on the ol' Nintendo 64! Let's be real, the console doesn't matter - Mario is never a bad choice.

Honourable mentions

  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Playing myself with all this procrastination
  • My exams be playing me :'(

LISTENING

Sometimes, your eyes just need a break from those complicated graphs, that 3000 word essay, and regrettably, even the TV. That’s why we love jamming out! If you want to listen and actually do some study at the same time, check out our Study Playlists for Focus and Motivation!

JASON DERULO

Remember jamming to Jason Derulo in the early 2000's at your school disco? All I need to say is: mmm whatcha say?

TAYLOR SWIFT (FOLKLORE)

Live out your magical woodland fairy dreams and chill to the calming sounds of Folklore … or just go back to You Belong With Me for the millionth time.

THE VERONICAS

Untouched is an Australian anthem, and you can't tell us otherwise. I go ooh ooh, you go ahh ahh. Absolute banger. If this doesn't get you amped to be productive (for study or whatever you're doing to avoid it), then unfortunately there may be no help for you.

Honourable mentions

  • Carole King
  • Billy Joel
  • U2
  • Sigur Ros
Happy procrastinating!
