Donald Trump is screwing over women, migrants, trans people, workers and activists in America and our universities are trying to bring Trumpism to Australia. UWA has restricted free speech and Palestine activism on campus. These attacks on the basic rights of student unions need to be fought. We need an activist UWA guild that takes on the UWA administration and the government and fights for students rights, against war and for social justice.
I’m a socialist activist and have been involved in the Palestine encampment at Curtin last year and the student general meeting for Palestine and this year helped organise the national day of protest against Trump. Social Justice is a ticket full of activists that fight for Palestine, against the climate crisis and for better quality and free education and want the UWA guild to be a part of this fight.
Now, more than ever, we need intransigent leftwing activists in our student unions. Trump in power, the genocide in Gaza, the cost of living crisis, the climate. These are all things that student unions, like the UWA Guild, need to play a role in fighting against. The cost of living crisis and housing crisis are deeply affecting students. UWA has ties to weapons companies like L3Harris that are complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people. While the climate crisis wreaks havoc on the world, UWA continues to have deep ties with climate criminals like Woodside and Chevron. These are all things that a left wing Guild could and should fight back against. Social Justice is the ticket that will fight for a left wing Guild that tackles the political questions that students care about and uses the resources of the Guild to build activist campaigns.
Universities are run like businesses, with constant cost cutting, slashing of courses, and worsening pressures on staff/students. Getting an education is becoming less accessible and feels like a ‘degree factory’. And we are witnessing a terrifying pattern across Australia: the militarisation of education. Last year candidates from my ticket, Social Justice, led a campaign against UWA’s ties to the genocide in Gaza. Social Justice wants to shake up the entire approach of the current student guild. The Guild should use its resources to mobilise students around the issues that are impacting us: the immense cost of living/housing crises, the huge price of our education (universities are raking in their highest ever profits yet students are burdened with enormous debts), and the appalling complicity of UWA in the genocide. The Guild can fight on all of this and more, but only if it takes an activist stand against management.
Hi, I’m Ella, and I’m running for President of the Public Affairs Council with Social Justice.
We’re currently in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, with rent and food prices skyrocketing whilst mass corporations and the wealthy rake in record profits. Neither the Albanese Labour government nor the University is providing students with any real relief- 20% off HECS debt isn’t going to cut it. However, the Guild has the ability to fight back through the collective power of students and workers. We need a Guild that recognises this. One that isn’t afraid to challenge governments, university management, and corporate interests. That means fighting for free education, better support for students, and real democratic control of our institutions.
We deserve better and if you’re ready to see real change on campus, vote no.1 for Social Justice in this student election.
A genocide in Gaza, a cost of living crisis, and a climate emergency. These things demand resistance, but student guilds in Australia have largely failed to step up to the task of challenging our universities and governments in their complicity. We need a Guild that is willing to take up a fight for what is right.
I first became involved in activism in 2019, when tens of thousands of high school and uni students took to the streets against the fossil fuel industry. Last year I was part of the Curtin Gaza Solidarity Encampment against the ties our universities have to weapons companies arming Israel’s genocide in Gaza. These movements prove that students can take a stand against injustice and challenge the status quo. With Social Justice, you’re getting experienced activists who think it’s worth fighting for a better world, and that the Guild should be part of that too.Sexism is ever-changing and persistent – from the classroom to the workplace and in everyday life, we need changes now!
I’m Eleka, and I’m running with Social Justice for Women’s Officer to push our Guild beyond performative campaigns, towards creating and supporting movements that fight against sexism in all forms. The Guild as a student union needs to seek more ambitious change, such as putting pressure on the Labor government to provide free, properly staffed childcare for all. We deserve leaders who fight – not just on campus but all across society – against sexism as well as the capitalist system upholding and profiting from it.
Vote 1 Social Justice to help us achieve a student guild that leads organised resistance with strong anti-sexist principles.
We have a world to win!
Hi, I’m Joshua and I’m running with Social Justice to be the UWA International Student Department President. International students are being treated like cash cows by both the university and the Australian government. With international student visas being among the most expensive in the world and at the same time reducing the number of places for international students. all while charging international Students exorbitant fees during a cost of living crisis. International students need to know that they too can fight for their rights and not be passive bystanders as the government and the university continue to treat them worse. International students deserve to be treated like people and not just a disposable commodity for the Australian economy.
This is why I'm running openly as an activist and a socialist with social justice for International Student Department President. Vote [1] for Social Justice!

My name is Hayley, and I’ll be running for Environment Officer and Ordinary Guild Councillor. The total destruction of the climate looms over us like a dark cloud - and yet all the institutions we look to offer no respite. I think we need to stop asking nicely from the irrational capitalists that are wringing the life out of us and our planet. I believe we deserve an activist student union that serves students’ needs, not the profit margins of university management and industry, and all of my actions as a student representative will be in service of this goal. Our student unions can and should do more to hold our government and institutions to account, and I am committed to their transformation into a powerful instrument for the student body. Vote 1 for Social Justice in this upcoming election.
There’s a cost of living crisis. Students are graduating with a debt sentence of tens or sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars; they’re struggling to pay rent, if they can crack into the rental market at all; and there are zero rentals that are affordable for students relying solely on Youth Allowance payments to support themselves. This is all only the tip of the iceberg. We need the big fixes - not the little ones. We need activist wellbeing officebearers that don’t just offer token bandaid solutions - but who are committed to building a student campaign to make demands on the Albanese Labor government: abolish HECS, double Youth Allowance and build more public housing, not nuclear submarines. This is the action I will fight for as Wellbeing Officer.
Hi, I’m Ed and I’ll be running for Sports Representative. As a socialist, I will use my position to fight against oppression in all forms and build a strong left that can challenge and eventually overthrow the twisted capitalist system crushing us all underfoot. I believe we deserve a society that caters to people’s needs, not the profit margins of the rich and powerful, and all of my actions as a student representative will be in service of this goal. I am particularly passionate about stamping out sexism, homophobia and transphobia in our sporting communities and building a campus where people are treated with genuine respect and dignity. Our student unions should be ambitious, fearlessly holding our government and institutions to account, and I am committed to reinstating them as a powerful instrument of social justice.

Tom Pearce (Ordinary Guild Councillor and NUS Delegate - Social Justice - 2025)
Hey, I’m Tom and I am running for Ordinary Guild Councillor and NUS Delegate with Social Justice.
Students are living in poverty. The housing crisis and rental crisis has only intensified, and students are feeling the crunch.
The crisis in Gaza has reached new heights. The blockade of aid, food and medical supplies by Israel means that thousands of Palestinians are starving to death.
Free speech and activism at UWA is under attack–the ability for students to protest and speak truth to power has been savaged by the university.
When the world is becoming increasingly more brutal, we need a fighting, activist guild which looks to the collective power of students to fight back. Running on a left-wing and socialist platform, Social Justice is the only group which can do this. Vote [1] for Social Justice!
Students have always been central to the fight for social justice. From the anti-Vietnam war protests, to the civil rights movement, and just last year the Palestine solidarity campaign students have the power to transform their campuses and the rest of society into engines for progressive change and activism!
Universities should be places for critical inquiry, institutions to make the world a better place, to solve the issues of climate change, poverty, and inequality. However, more and more we are seeing our very education being turned into money grabbing degree factories that silence activists, scrap humanities degrees, and collaborate with weapons companies.
As a delegate to the National Union of Students I have a vision of higher education where universities are free and accessible to all. Where students can engage and tackle the issues of the world, and importantly take part in activism to fight the injustices of capitalism.
