This is an event aimed to help UWA science students make industry connections in order to assist them in finding work in their field during and beyond their time at UWA.

Our networking evening provides the perfect environment for you to begin your networking journey if you haven’t already or widen your network! You’ll have the opportunity to interact with fellow STEM students, faculty staff, prominent figures in the scientific community and company representatives.

The Science Union Networking evening is from 6:30pm on Thursday the 19th of August at Village bar and is an annual event.

In prior years, this event was branded as a ‘cocktail evening’ and the emphasis was on the types of drinks available. We have removed this aspect and the focus of this event is now solely on networking to encourage conversations surrounding employability and academia.

This event is designed to be a relaxed evening of networking, amazing food, drinks and inspiring the next generation of scientists. Science Union’s main objectives for this event are to allow students to establish varying connections between university peers and notable figures in the field of science, provide an insight into employment aspects, encourage students with their academic pursuits and perhaps inspire them to make a change. The central focus of this event is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their networking skills through meeting like-minded peers and special guests who are all significant figures in the science community.

In terms of speakers and special guests for the event, we are honoured to have locked in Prof. Barry J Marshall, Lyn Beazley, Jason Bell, Hannah Green from Chem Centre and Judy Marty from Beyond Blue. The special guests will be delivering short speeches on how and why they pursued their line of work and what their work encompasses.  Each speaker represents a different scientific field, providing students with an understanding that there are innumerable opportunities available in the field of science, and to connect students with experts in a field relating to their studies. After the few short speeches, there will be food provided and everyone is encouraged to network and make connections with the guests and other students in their field.
