The Amnesty International UWA committee is bringing the 'Raise The Age' campaign to UWA through a documentary screening of 'In My Blood It Runs' and a subsequent discussion with panelists from Social Reinvestment WA, a social impact organisation.
The purpose of this event is to educate UWA students who are interested in social justice about the current issues pertaining the youth justice sector in WA where children as young as 10 can be sent to prison. Collaborating with SRWA, Amnesty hopes to rally support in raising the minimum age of criminal responsibility to 14 years old to lessen the overrepresentation of young First Nations peoples in prison and emphasise rehabilitation, prevention and early intervention measures.
2 or 3 members from SRWA will be attending, provide a networking opportunity for UWA students to gain insight on working within the community service and youth justice sector.
