The WAMSS Emergency Medicine Challenge (EMC) is an annual team-based competitive academic event which pits teams of medical students in a series of challenging critical care / emergency medicine scenarios.

Teams are typically composed of 4 - 6 medical students (from UWA) with at least one student from a "pre-clinical year" (i.e. MD1 / MD2). Each team circulates in a circuit of around 10 stations, each with a different scenario and run by volunteers and examiners.

Junior doctors, who were previous UWA medical school graduates, volunteer to examine the EMC, with the most successful team winning a prize.

The EMC is hosted each year to provide medical students with a fun, engaging and relevant way to apply their clinical knowledge and skills in a simulated clinical situation. This is both to garner interest in critical care medicine and allow students a platform to practice for their examinations.

As an annual event, and one of the larger events within the WAMSS Academic Events portfolio, it is typically very well recieved and attended each year.
