WAMSS is reviving an old medical student magazine (Reflex Magazine) that used to exist in since the 20th century, written by medical students for medical students. We hope to bring it back to life with medical student-submitted stories, gossip, and advice to invigorate the medical student experience here at the UWA Medical School. We hope that there could also be educational articles and exam tips and hints, as a classic part of the collegiality in medical school culture. Part of this will involve incentivising medical students to take time out of their very busy lives to contribute their mark to WAMSS history.
Enter: "Spill the Tea: Reflex Magazine Writing Nights". The co-editors envision these nights to be a wholesome and comfy night in the Common Room, where students can curl up with a mug of tea (or a glass of their soft drink of choice) and write articles to their heart's content. Else, they could bounce ideas, workshop layouts, or even just provide emotional support as the peanut gallery.
The added benefit of these writing nights would be to provide a mental break from the intense nature of medical placements and an opportunity to catch up with fellow peers over a charcuterie board and a cute beverage. By supporting this project, the UWA Student Guild would be helping to promote the mental wellbeing of medical students as well as helping to preserve the social culture and history of this society.
