The Students in Health and Medical Research Conference (SHMRC) is an annual

research symposium showcasing research from health and medical students in

Western Australia. It is the premier student research conference and it has been

running for over 25 years. The symposium provides student researchers with the

opportunity to showcase their work, network with fellow health & medical peers,

and gain further insights & knowledge from leaders in the field. We aim to provide

health science students from all WA universities the opportunity to display their

exceptional research projects and to meet like-minded individuals.

SHRMC was created by the Western Australian Medical Students' Society

(WAMSS) but has now expanded to include all three medical schools in WA,

including Curtin University and the University of Notre Dame. The evening brings

together clinicians, researchers, and students from the WA health and medical

research community for the presentation and recognition of research undertaken

by students from all universities in WA.

Our Goals

1. Provide a forum for the presentation, discussion, and recognition of

research by medical and health sciences students

2. Provide students with the opportunity to participate in a world-class

research conference and gain exposure to the research community

3. Develop a strong, collaborative research culture in students and health

professionals

4. Have a particular focus on mentorship and link students with research

mentors to kickstart their careers in research
