This #Endtheviolence Week join Damsel Magazine in discussing the harmful impact of misogyny and sexism within the media. Re-Centering the Narrative means highlighting the misogynistic headlines often found in the news, the prolific use of photoshop, the media’s perpetuation of the perfect body and the general unattainable standards to which women are held. In our online workshop we’re asking contributors to explore the importance of feminist perspectives through creative writing and artwork.

The issue of misogyny and sexism in the media is a prevalent one. This workshop aims to start conversations within our community about body positivity, women’s right to exist without constant scrutiny, and the often impossible standards to which we are held. We’ve selected two prompts we feel have lots of potential to spark ideas and create a healthy debate - stay tuned for the release of these prompts on the facebook event page!

Feel free to choose whichever prompt you feel evokes more emotion and creativity for you, and spend 20 minutes brainstorming ideas. The focus of your brainstorm should ideally be either a piece of art (this can be a sketch, cartoon, comic strip, painting etc.) or a piece of creative writing (the length of the piece is up to you- 10 words, 100, 1000, whatever suits you!)

Send us a quick email with your ideas by Tuesday, April 21, and join us for a group discussion over Zoom on Wednesday, April 22 from 4-5pm. You can reach us at [email protected]

We look forward to hearing all your thought provoking ideas, and having a lively discussion!
