We've all told a white lie to spare someones feelings before. But when we do that we're (arguably) doing something wrong by lying, and justifying that wrong-doing because we don't want to hurt the other person's feelings. In a sense, the ends justify the means. Or do they? Should we tell our friend that their new jacket actually looks awful on them? Or do the ends justify the means in this case but not in others?
