Postgraduate Students' Association (PSA) Committee Elections 

Nomination Process

The PSA Committee positions listed below will be elected online only in line with the PSA Rules and PSA Elections Rules.

2027 PSA Committee Positions to be Elected:

• PSA President 
• PSA Vice-President Coursework 
• PSA Vice-President Research 
  
• PSA Vice-President Engagement
• PSA Vice-President Welfare
• PSA General Secretary 
  

Material Submission:

Subject to rule 26:
PSA Presidential Candidates shall be entitled to submit to the Returning Officer:
(a)          one photograph depicting the Candidate, taken within the prior 12 months;
(b)          an electronic A4 poster; and
(c)          a statement of up to 500 words.

Other PSA Committee Candidates (up for Election) shall be entitled to submit to the Returning Officer: 
(a)          one photograph depicting the Candidate, taken within the prior 12 months;
(b)          an electronic poster of A4 dimensions; and
(c)          a statement of up to 200 words.

All material is due into the Returning Officer by the close of Nominations: 11.59pm Friday 9 October 2026.

The PSA Election Rules stipulate that campaigning may only occur once nominations are declared under Rule 22 and must cease when electronic voting closes. Candidates may only campaign via Electronic Media and may direct potential electors towards any location that the Returning Officer (RO) has displayed material.

Permitted Campaigning:
- Posting on Electronic Media
- Sending online messages (including emails) and text messages

The following will NOT be Permitted Campaigning:
- Distributing hard copy materials
- Speeches or presentations delivered publicly in person
- Displaying or presenting materials in lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratories, libraries, common areas or other similar venues on campus
- T-shirts
- External websites not hosted by the Guild (in which the Candidate promotes/campaigns themselves - whether you are a candidate or not).
- Candidates are responsible for monitoring campaigning, electronic or otherwise, made by non-Candidates which purport to endorse the candidate so that they comply with the requirements in Rule 25 and Rule 27.

Nomination: What to do to be considered for an Electable Position on the 2027 PSA Committee

Being a member of the PSA Committee is a great opportunity to develop event management, time management, interpersonal and other generic skills. To nominate yourself for election (in any of the SIX electable positions; President, Vice-President (Coursework), Vice-President (Research), Vice-President (Engagement), Vice-President (Welfare), General Secretary) you need to download and complete the nomination form. You may include a statement of up to 500 words (for PSA President) & up to 200 words (for other elected PSA Committee positions) on why you wish to be considered for that position, along with a current portrait photo (jpeg format), and/or a poster no larger than a A4 size for your candidacy to be posted on the website.

(Nominations Closing & Material Submission Deadline). 

IMPORTANT NOTE:
**If you are nominating for MORE THAN ONE (1) ELECTABLE POSITION, please clearly number the preference(s) of each position in your Nomination email to the Returning Officer. **

You must also ask two other members of the Postgraduate Students' Association to second your nomination (any UWA postgraduate student who are not themselves nominating for the same position) – this simply means that they support your nomination and believe you are suitably qualified, experienced, networked and/or motivated for the position for which you are nominating.

Important Notes:

• PSA members are ineligible for a committee position if they hold a paid position within the PSA or UWA Student Guild.
• The Returning Officer reserves the right to alter the requirements of online voting. Any affected votes will be notified of any changes as soon as possible, if this is required.
• Members of the PSA Committee should be members of the UWA Student Guild. Membership status can be changed via StudentConnect.

Appointable Positions and unfilled Electable Positions
As per the PSA Rules, application for the Appointable Positions and any unfilled Electable Positions (all set out in Schedule 1) will commence following the declaration of results of the Electable positions. An Expression of Interest Form will be circulated on PSA social media and in the department newsletter for interested applicants.
