Young Sikh Professionals Panel and Networking Evening

A careers panel and networking evening for Sikh students at UWA and across Perth.

Six early to mid career Sikh professionals will speak on a moderated panel about how they got into their fields, what the first few years of work actually looked like, and what they wish someone had told them as students. The panellists come from law, medicine, engineering, the public sector and business.

After the panel, attendees move into small groups and rotate between panellists for shorter, more direct conversations. This is the part of the night that does the work. A large panel is useful for context, but students ask the questions that matter to them in a group of eight, not in a room of a hundred and twenty.

The purpose is straightforward. Many Sikh students at UWA are the first in their family to go to university in Australia, and have no professional network to draw on. They do not know anyone in the industries they want to enter, and they do not have anyone to ask about the unwritten parts of getting a graduate job. This event puts them in a room with people who look like them, who have done it recently, and who are willing to be contacted afterwards.

The event is funded through a UWA Student Impact Grant.
