Hack the Harvest Hackathon

The United Exports x Venture UWA Innovation Hackathon is a multidisciplinary innovation challenge that brings together university students to solve real-world problems facing Australia's aquaculture industry.

Participants will begin with an exclusive farm immersion experience at United Exports, where they will gain first-hand insight into operations, meet industry experts, and develop a deep understanding of the challenges. Working in diverse teams, students will then apply human-centred design, lean startup principles, and rapid validation to develop innovative, practical solutions that are desirable for customers, technically feasible and commercially viable.

Throughout the weekend, teams will be supported by mentors from industry, academia, and the startup ecosystem before pitching their solutions to a panel of judges at the final showcase.

The hackathon provides students with the opportunity to:

• Work on genuine industry challenges with one of Australia's leading aquaculture companies.


• Gain hands-on experience applying innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.


• Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams with students from different backgrounds.


• Receive mentoring from experienced founders, industry professionals, and researchers.


• Develop valuable skills in problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and pitching.


• Build connections with industry and showcase ideas with real potential for implementation.

The event aims to create meaningful collaboration between students and industry while generating fresh ideas that can contribute to the future of sustainable aquaculture and food production in Western Australia.
