Association of Services to Torture and Trauma Survivors (ASeTTS) and UWA Guild Volunteering.
This project will be engaging young people between the ages of 12- 18 who are from various refugee communities, and/or are survivors of torture and trauma. The goal is to promote the importance of mental health, well being, youth leadership, social cohesion and the importance of education among young people.
The project will create an opportunity for young people to meet friends from various diverse cultural backgrounds, and meet and connect with UWA student volunteers.
Objectives: * To introduce various types of creative and expressive arts methods to help participants to maintain mental wellbeing.* To increase connections & attachments that reduce social isolation.* To encourage young people from refugee background to have an ambition to enter university. * To create opportunities for young people to exhibit their artworks.
There will be seven one-day events:Five creative arts events,*One mini-university open day and*Graduation/performance day.*An exhibition event where participants can display their artwork and feel proud of their work.
The exhibition aims to promote Refugee Week and highlight the talent and creativity of young people from a refugee background.All volunteers must train for Cultural Competence, Boundaries, Working with Children, and Induction to ASeTTS and the projectAll volunteers must have Police clearance and a Working with Children Card.
