Events
Running a club involves a lot of work! Luckily, the Guild is here to help you. Remember: to be an affiliated club, you have to run at least two events per year!
SOC-Run Events
O-Day
O-Day is one of the biggest days of he university calendar, with marquees taking up all of James Oval and food, drink and live music on Oak Lawn.
Club Carnival
SOC runs two Club Carnivals – one at the start of Semester One, and another at the start of Semester Two. These are designed to allow students who did not attend O-Day, and returning students to join and talk to clubs. Clubs are provided with a table and chairs for the event, held on Oak Lawn. Registration is sent out via email to clubs prior to the event.
Event Management Plan (EMP)
The funding the Guild receives from the University to support clubs is tied to an agreement, which requires club representatives to complete Event Management Plans (EMP) (and Risk Management Plans (RMP) where required) for the events they run.
By completing an EMP, you will also receive:
• $20 Million Public Liability Insurance
• Protection from the Guild if anything goes wrong (provided you followed your EMP). Note that if you run an event without an EMP, the Guild will take disciplinary action against your club, and (unless you are incorporated) your executive members will be personally liable for any liability claims (which could mean having to pay $$’s)!
Categories of EMP’s There are 7 EMP categories:
• Stalls
• Minor Events
• Medium Events with a Planned Activity (and no alcohol)
• Medium Events with Alcohol in a Licensed Venue
• Major Events
• Pubcrawls
• Camps
If you are unsure which category you fall into, please contact our Events Team events@guild.uwa.edu.au.
