The Student Leader Summit is an inaugural event hosted by the UWA Student Guild in collaboration with the University of Western Australia on Friday 2 August 2019. The Summit aims to inspire and up skill student leaders from WA universities. Students will hear from pre-eminent leaders in the Australian community and attend workshops convened by their peers.

The Summit’s keynote speaker is Heidi Gan, two-time Olympian (open-water swimming) and UWA graduate. Heidi is a decorated sportsperson and now practices commercial law.

Other guest speakers include the Honourable Madeleine King MP, who was elected to Federal Parliament in 2016. King has recently been promoted to the front bench of the Albanese Opposition as Shadow Minister for Trade.

In addition to practical workshops run by student leaders, two panel discussions will be held at the Student Leader Summit. Firstly, ‘Women in Leadership’ which includes guest panellists Sue Murphy AO, Erin Watson-Lyn, Paula Rogers and Jill Benn.

The afternoon session features the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ panel, where Michael McNulty (Leadership WA), Professor Gary Martin (Australian Institute of Management WA) and Jody Nunn (Australian Institute of Company Directors) are guest panellists.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dawn Freshwater, will also give an address, then mingle with attendees for an informal question time during the lunch break.

Predominantly aged 18-24, student leaders from clubs and societies, residential college leadership and the structures of the Guild (or equivalent) at Western Australian Universities will attend the Summit next month.

The Summit will be held at the University Club on the beautiful Crawley campus. Just 8 minutes’ drive from Perth CBD, the University Club’s award-winning cuisine and impeccable service have earned it a reputation as Perth’s premier conference and event venue.

The 106th Guild President Conrad Hogg said, “The Student Leader Summit is an exciting opportunity to bring together leaders in the Western Australian community and emerging leaders at university. We are grateful to have had a fantastic response from some great Western Australians, who have agreed to speak, and we are looking for to them sharing their wisdom with the audience.”
