O-Week 2017

OWEEK

Welcome to UWA!

The UWA Student Guild is here to make sure your time at uni is the best it can be – and it all starts in O-Week (Orientation Week)!

Your Faculty will be running lots of important, informative sessions covering everything you need to know about your course (check UniStart for your personalised orientation timetable), and we at the Guild are hosting heaps of fun activities where you can…

  • Meet and mingle with your fellow freshers and your hard-working student representatives
  • Find out about the social side of uni life (hint: there’s 140+ clubs and 900+ events to choose from each year), AND about the independent support that’s available
  • Discover the UWA campus
  • Join the Guild to get amazing benefits all year round (wondering what a Guild is? Read this!)
  • Get lots of free stuff!

Tip: As soon as you have enrolled and received your UWA campus card, visit the UWA Student Guild to activate your FREE Guild membership, which entitles you to a student diary (packed with important UWA info, dates and maps), great discounts on and off campus (on food, activities, useful services and more), and access to events and services all year long!

Find out what we have planned for each day below…

  • International Student Expo  (11.30am-1pm, Winthrop Hall Undercroft)
Come and find out what the Guild offers for international students. It’s your chance to meet our  International Students’ Service, Student Assist, Guild Volunteering and other Guild departments.
  • Speed Friending (1pm-3pm, Oak Lawn)
A  Speed Friending session is a fun and easy way to meet a lot of new people. You’ll chat to a series of people (including other new students as well as representatives from the Guild International Students’ Service and multicultural student clubs) for a few minutes each. You may even find someone who will be in your first classes!
  • Postgraduate Welcome & Campus Tours  (4pm-7.30pm, University Club)
Hear from the Postgraduate Students’ Association President, meet relevant Guild departments and get a tour of the Postgraduate Student Lounge.  Check your personalised UniStart timetable for your specific meeting points.
  • Mature Age Students Welcome (2.15pm, Alexander Lecture Theatre)
Meet the Mature Age Students Association,  a Guild group aimed at enabling you to develop a network of friends and peers, over afternoon tea. Sign up to the mailing list to keep up to date with MASA events, and get a mature age mentor.  This is part of the Mature Age Welcome afternoon, listed on your personalised UniStart timetable.
  • Undergraduate Welcome & Campus Tours (9am-12pm, Octagon Theatre)
Hear from the Guild President, and stop past the Guild Student Centre on your tour of the UWA Campus.  Check your personalised UniStart timetable for your specific meeting points.
  • Faculty Afternoon Activities on Oak (from 12pm)
Meet your Faculty Societies, Guild Volunteering, Student Assist and student representatives who are here to help you make the most of your time at UWA during  your Faculty lunch and/or expo.  Check your personalised UniStart timetable for your specific meeting points.
  • Welcome Sundowner  (from 2.30pm, Oak Lawn)
Wind down after your faculty orientation activities with our Welcome Sundowner. Meet your Faculty Society and club representatives, mingle with other new students, and enjoy some music and FREE food and drinks!
  • Club Carnival  (12pm-2pm, Oak Lawn)
There are more than 140 clubs at UWA, covering just about every interest: course-related, cultural, political, religious, hobby-related and more. They’ll be taking over Oak Lawn on Tuesday of week 2, so come down and find out what they do, buy tickets to upcoming events and get involved with the best campus culture in the country! Make sure to activate your FREE Guild membership any time beforehand or at the Guild Membership stall on the day to get $2 off any club membership fees.
