An Australia-wide week of recognition and celebrations for volunteers and the great work they do kicks off on May 21: National Volunteer Week 2018!
Here at the UWA Student Guild, we’re proud to have a wonderful student community that makes a huge contribution to various not-for-profits through volunteering. Last year, UWA students volunteered over 30,000 hours of their time to support worthy causes on campus and out in the community, and we’re on track to smash this figure by the end of 2018!
If you’d like to get involved in volunteering – or if you already volunteer but want to expand your horizons – read on to hear about what the Guild Volunteering team has planned for #NVW2018.
On Monday 21 May, we’ll be kicking things off with a day trip to Noah’s Ark Toy Library. This toy library is an initiative by Activ where children with a disability can access toys and learning resources to enhance their learning and development. They’re moving to a larger space, so we’re assisting Activ by sorting and packing toys. Sign up to help out!
Also on Monday at 12pm, we’ll host a panel discussion where experienced student volunteers will discuss the personal and professional benefits of volunteering. It’s a great opportunity for you to ask fellow students about where volunteering has taken them, plus there’ll be free food! Space is limited, so book your place!
On Tuesday 22 May from 12pm, come down to our Volunteer Fair, where you’ll have the chance to chat with over 25 not-for-profits and clubs about volunteer opportunities. Again, free food is involved!
For the hump day of National Volunteer Week, we’ll be rounding up volunteers to go and clean up Matilda Bay Reserve. You can come help out for as little or as long as you can! The more the merrier, so sign up here.
To wrap up the week, we have volunteer day trips to Cystic Fibrosis WA and Araluen. These have been fully booked already by keen bean volunteers, but head to the “Event Volunteering” tab on the Guild Volunteering website and you can join the waitlist!
