Guild Council is the overall governing body for the Guild. It’s responsible for setting direction of the Guild and making decisions on all aspects of the organisation including Guild policy.
There are 22 voting members of Guild Council, made up of the President, Treasurer, Presidents of the Education, Public Affairs and Societies Councils, Women’s Officer, International Students’ Service Officer, Postgraduate Students’ Association President, Sports Council President and 13 ordinary councillors.
All of these positions are elected at the annual Guild Elections except for the Sports Council President, who is elected by the sporting clubs. Some positions like Vice-President and Secretary are elected by Guild Council from amongst the Council members.
The other Guild Department representatives also sit on Guild Council but as non-voting members, representing the views of their stakeholders and collectives directly to Council.
